BACKGROUND: Early-onset prostate cancer (EOPC, ≤ 55 years) has a unique clinical entity harboring high genetic risk, but the majority of EOPC patients still substantial opportunity to be early-detected thus suffering an unfavorable prognosis. A refined understanding of age-based polygenic risk score (PRS) for prostate cancer (PCa) would be essential for personalized risk stratification. METHODS: We included 167,517 male participants [4882 cases including 205 EOPC and 4677 late-onset PCa (LOPC)] from UK Biobank. A General-, an EOPC- and an LOPC-PRS were derived from age-specific genome-wide association studies. Weighted Cox proportional hazard models were applied to estimate the risk of PCa associated with PRSs. The discriminatory capability of PRSs were validated using time-dependent receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves with additional 4238 males from PLCO and TCGA. Phenome-wide association studies underlying Mendelian Randomization were conducted to discover EOPC linking phenotypes. RESULTS: The 269-PRS calculated via well-established risk variants was more strongly associated with risk of EOPC [hazard ratio (HR) = 2.35, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.99-2.78] than LOPC (HR = 1.95, 95% CI 1.89-2.01; I2 = 79%). EOPC-PRS was dramatically related to EOPC risk (HR = 4.70, 95% CI 3.98-5.54) but not to LOPC (HR = 0.98, 95% CI 0.96-1.01), while LOPC-PRS had similar risk estimates for EOPC and LOPC (I2 = 0%). Particularly, EOPC-PRS performed optimal discriminatory capability for EOPC (area under the ROC = 0.613). Among the phenomic factors to PCa deposited in the platform of ProAP (Prostate cancer Age-based PheWAS; https://mulongdu.shinyapps.io/proap ), EOPC was preferentially associated with PCa family history while LOPC was prone to environmental and lifestyles exposures. CONCLUSIONS: This study comprehensively profiled the distinct genetic and phenotypic architecture of EOPC. The EOPC-PRS may optimize risk estimate of PCa in young males, particularly those without family history, thus providing guidance for precision population stratification.

The development of an effective survival prediction tool is key for reducing colorectal cancer mortality. Here, we apply a three-stage study to devise a polygenic prognostic score (PPS) for stratifying colorectal cancer overall survival. Leveraging two cohorts of 3703 patients, we first perform a genome-wide survival association analysis to develop eight candidate PPSs. Further using an independent cohort with 470 patients, we identify the 287 variants-derived PPS (i.e., PPS287) achieving an optimal prediction performance [hazard ratio (HR) per SD = 1.99, P = 1.76 × 10-8], accompanied by additional tests in two external cohorts, with HRs per SD of 1.90 (P = 3.21 × 10-14; 543 patients) and 1.80 (P = 1.11 × 10-9; 713 patients). Notably, the detrimental impact of pathologic characteristics and genetic risk could be attenuated by a healthy lifestyle, yielding a 7.62% improvement in the 5-year overall survival rate. Therefore, our findings demonstrate the integrated contribution of pathologic characteristics, germline variants, and lifestyle exposure to the prognosis of colorectal cancer patients.

Metabolomics is a rapidly expanding field in systems biology used to measure alterations of metabolites and identify metabolic biomarkers in response to disease processes. The discovery of metabolic biomarkers can improve early diagnosis, prognostic prediction, and therapeutic intervention for cancers. However, there are currently no databases that provide a comprehensive evaluation of the relationship between metabolites and cancer processes. In this review, we summarize reported metabolites in body fluids across pan-cancers and characterize their clinical applications in liquid biopsy. We conducted a search for metabolic biomarkers using the keywords ("metabolomics" OR "metabolite") AND "cancer" in PubMed. Of the 22,254 articles retrieved, 792 were deemed potentially relevant for further review. Ultimately, we included data from 573,300 samples and 17,083 metabolic biomarkers. We collected information on cancer types, sample size, the human metabolome database (HMDB) ID, metabolic pathway, area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity and specificity of metabolites, sample source, detection method, and clinical features were collected. Finally, we developed a user-friendly online database, the Human Cancer Metabolic Markers Database (HCMMD), which allows users to query, browse, and download metabolite information. In conclusion, HCMMD provides an important resource to assist researchers in reviewing metabolic biomarkers for diagnosis and progression of cancers.

Continuous cutaneous urinary diversion is challenging when the appendix is physically unavailable. The Yang-Monti channel is an alternative to the tunneled appendix for urinary diversion. We present a case involving a 49-year-old man who underwent total urethrectomy and cystostomy 10 months previously. No tumor recurrence was observed; however, the patient experienced severe catheter-related bladder irritation after the procedure. The patient was readmitted to the authors' hospital and underwent laparoscopic continent cutaneous urinary diversion using extracorporeal construction of a modified Yang-Monti channel. The operation lasted 232 minutes, with an estimated blood loss of 10 mL. The patient was discharged from hospital 6 days after surgery and removal of the cystostomy tube. After this, clean intermittent catheterization was performed every 3 hours for 4 weeks. Five years after the procedure, the modified Yang-Monti channel was still used for clean intermittent catheterization without any stomal stenosis being observed. The patient was satisfied with his postoperative quality of life.

Genetic variants in super-enhancers (SEs) are increasingly implicated as a disease risk-driving mechanism. Previous studies have reported an associations between benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) exposure and some malignant tumor risk. Currently, it is unclear whether BaP is involved in the effect of genetic variants in SEs on prostate cancer risk, nor the associated intrinsic molecular mechanisms. In the current study, by using logistic regression analysis, we found that rs5750581T>C in 22q-SE was significantly associated with prostate cancer risk (odds ratio = 1.26, P = 7.61 × 10 -5). We also have found that the rs6001092T>G, in a high linkage disequilibrium with rs5750581T>C ( r 2 = 0.98), is located in a regulatory aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) motif and may interact with the FAM227A promoter in further bioinformatics analysis. We then performed a series of functional and BaP acute exposure experiments to assess biological function of the genetic variant and the target gene. Biologically, the rs6001092-G allele strengthened the transcription factor binding affinity to AhR, thereby upregulating FAM227A, especially upon exposure to BaP, which induced the malignant phenotypes of prostate cancer. The current study highlights that AhR acts as an environmental sensor of BaP and is involved in the SE-mediated prostate cancer risk, which may provide new insights into the etiology of prostate cancer associated with the inherited SE variants under environmental carcinogen stressors.

BACKGROUND: Primary cilia are antenna-like organelles that conduct physical and chemical signals, which affect cell proliferation, migration, and differentiation. Some researchers have reported the correlation between primary cilia-related genes and prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC). METHODS: The association between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of primary cilia-related genes and outcome after the first-line chemotherapy was explored by the Cox regression model. Expression qualitative trait locus (eQTL) analysis was performed to explore the impact of SNPs on gene expression. Tumor Immune Estimation Resource and TISIDB databases were used for investigating the relevance between ODF2L and tumor infiltration immune cells and immunomodulators. RESULTS: We identified that rs4288473 C allele of ODF2L had poor progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of CRC patients in the additive model (adjusted HRPFS = 1.39, 95% CI = 1.14-1.70, p = 1.36 × 10-3 , and adjusted HROS = 1.31, 95% CI = 1.03-1.65, p = 2.62 × 10-2 ). The stratified analysis indicated that rs4288573 CC/CT genotype was involved with poor prognosis in the irinotecan-treated subgroup (PPFS = 1.03 × 10-2 , POS = 3.29 × 10-3 ). Besides, ODF2L mRNA expression level was notably up-regrated in CRC tissues. The C allele of rs4288573 was notably related to higher ODF2L mRNA expression levels based on eQTL analysis. Functionally, knockdown of ODF2L inhibited cell proliferation and decrease the chemoresistance of HCT-116 and DLD-1 cells to irinotecan. CONCLUSION: Our study indicates that rs4288573 in ODF2L is a potential predictor of the chemotherapy prognosis of CRC.

Environmental pollutants known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are produced through the incomplete combustion of organic material. While PAHs have been investigated as genotoxicants, they can also operate through nongenotoxic pathways in estrogen-dependent malignancies, such as breast, cervical and ovarian cancer. However, whether PAHs induce colorectal cancer (CRC) risk through estrogenic effects is still illusive. Here, we systematically investigated the abnormal expression and activation of estrogen receptor beta (ERß) regulated by PAHs in CRC as well as the underlying mechanisms of ERß-mediated CRC risk. Based on the 300 plasma samples from CRC patients and healthy controls detected by GC-MS/MS, we found that the plasma concentrations of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) were significantly higher in CRC cases than in healthy controls, with significant estrogenic effects. Moreover, histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2)-induced deacetylation of the promoter decreases ERß expression, which is associated with poor overall survival and advanced tumor stage. The study also revealed that BaP and estradiol (E2) had different carcinogenic effects, with BaP promoting cell proliferation and inhibiting apoptosis, while E2 had the opposite effects. Additionally, this study mapped ERß genomic binding regions by performing ChIP-seq and ATAC-seq and identified genetic variants of rs1411680 and its high linkage disequilibrium SNP rs6477937, which were significantly associated with CRC risk through meta-analysis of two independent Chinese population genome-wide association studies comprising 2,248 cases and 3,173 controls and then validation in a large-scale European population. By integrating data from functional genomics, we validated the regulatory effect of rs6477937 as an ERß binding-disrupting SNP that mediated allele-specific expression of LINC02977 in a long-range chromosomal interaction manner, which was found to be highly expressed in CRC tissues. Overall, this study suggests that the different active effects on ERß by PAHs and endogenous E2 may play a crucial role in the development and progression of CRC and highlights the potential of targeting ERß and its downstream targets for CRC prevention and treatment.

The objective of this study is to explore the safety and effectiveness of two new models of KangDuo surgical robots for partial nephrectomy in porcine models, and evaluate the ergonomic characteristics from both subjective and objective perspectives. Twelve porcine models were equally divided for KD-SR-1500 (three-arm) and KD-SR-2000 (four-arm). The perioperative outcomes, and physical and mental workload of the surgeon were compared. Physical workload was evaluated with surface electromyography. Mental workload was evaluated with NASA-TLX. All surgeries were performed successfully. There were no differences in perioperative variables (p > 0.05). There were no perioperative complications. The mental workload in both groups was at a low level. KD-SR-2000 showed advantages in physical workload (p < 0.01). KD-SR-1500 and KD-SR-2000 are technically feasible, valid, and safe for RAPN in porcine models. KD-SR-2000 had ergonomic advantages over KD-SR-1500.

Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) pathway genes influence tumorigenesis and immune status. However, the associations between genetic variants in hypoxia-related genes and colorectal cancer risk and the immune status of hypoxia-associated genes in colorectal cancer have not been systematically characterized. The associations between genetic variants and colorectal cancer risk were evaluated in Chinese, Japanese and European populations using logistic regression analysis. The relationships between target genes and tumour immune infiltration were predicted by Tumour Immune Estimation Resource (TIMER). We found that rs34533650 in EPAS1 was associated with colorectal cancer risk (OR = 1.43, 95% CI = 1.20-1.70, P(FDR) = 8.35 × 10-4 ), and this finding was validated in two independent populations (Japanese: OR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.01-1.15, p = 3.38 × 10-2 ; European: OR = 1.11, 95% CI = 1.03-1.19, p = 6.04 × 10-3 ). EPAS1-associated genes were enriched in immune-related pathways. In addition, we found that EPAS1 copy number variation (CNV) was associated with the degree of infiltration of immune cells and observed correlations between EPAS1 expression and immune cell infiltration levels in colorectal cancer. These results highlight that genetic variants of hypoxia-related genes play roles in colorectal cancer risk and provide new insight that EPAS1 might be a promising predictor of colorectal cancer susceptibility and immune status.

The interplay between DNA replication stress and immune microenvironment alterations is known to play a crucial role in colorectal tumorigenesis, but a comprehensive understanding of their association with and relevant biomarkers involved in colorectal tumorigenesis is lacking. To address this gap, we conducted a study aiming to investigate this association and identify relevant biomarkers. We analyzed transcriptomic and proteomic profiles of 904 colorectal tumor tissues and 342 normal tissues to examine pathway enrichment, biological activity, and the immune microenvironment. Additionally, we evaluated genetic effects of single variants and genes on colorectal cancer susceptibility using data from genome-wide association studies (GWASs) involving both East Asian (7062 cases and 195745 controls) and European (24476 cases and 23073 controls) populations. We employed mediation analysis to infer the causal pathway, and applied multiplex immunofluorescence to visualize colocalized biomarkers in colorectal tumors and immune cells. Our findings revealed that both DNA replication activity and the flap structure-specific endonuclease 1 ( FEN1) gene were significantly enriched in colorectal tumor tissues, compared with normal tissues. Moreover, a genetic variant rs4246215 G>T in FEN1 was associated with a decreased risk of colorectal cancer (odds ratio = 0.94, 95% confidence interval: 0.90-0.97, P meta = 4.70 × 10 -9). Importantly, we identified basophils and eosinophils that both exhibited a significantly decreased infiltration in colorectal tumors, and were regulated by rs4246215 through causal pathways involving both FEN1 and DNA replication. In conclusion, this trans-omics incorporating GWAS data provides insights into a plausible pathway connecting DNA replication and immunity, expanding biological knowledge of colorectal tumorigenesis and therapeutic targets.

Objective: To assess the feasibility of internal suspension technique in retroperitoneal robot-assisted laparoscopic partial nephrectomy (rRAPN) with a new robotic platform called KangDuo Surgical Robot-01 (KD-SR-01) system (Suzhou KangDuo Robot Co., Ltd., Suzhou, China) and discuss its surgical technique. Methods: A 44-year-old male patient was admitted with a 2.5 cm tumor on dorsolateral upper pole of the left kidney. The R.E.N.A.L. nephrometry score of this patient was 4x. This patient underwent rRAPN with KD-SR-01. The perinephric fat between the tumor and Gerota's fascia was preserved, which was used for internal suspension traction during tumor resection. Postoperative follow-up data were collected. Results: The surgery was successfully carried out with a duration of 127 min, in which the docking time was 6 min 25 s and console time was 60 min. The warm ischemia time was 19 min 53 s, and the estimated blood loss was 0 mL. The pathological histology showed a pathological tumor stage 1a clear cell renal cell carcinoma, with a negative surgical margin. The World Health Organization/International Society of Urological Pathology (WHO/ISUP) grade of this patient was Grade 2. No recurrence was observed during the 6-month follow-up. Conclusion: Internal suspension in rRAPN is feasible and effective with use of the new robotic system KD-SR-01.

BACKGROUND: The KangDuo-Surgical Robot-01 (KD-SR-01) system is a new surgical robot recently developed in China. The aim of this study was to present our single-center experience and mid-term outcomes of urological procedures using the KD-SR-01 system. METHODS: From August 2020 to April 2023, consecutive urologic procedures were performed at Peking University First Hospital using the KD-SR-01 system. The clinical features, perioperative data, and follow-up outcomes were prospectively collected and analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 110 consecutive patients were recruited. Among these patients, 28 underwent partial nephrectomy (PN), 41 underwent urinary tract reconstruction (26 underwent pyeloplasty, 3 underwent ureteral reconstruction and 12 underwent ureterovesical reimplantation [UR]), and 41 underwent radical prostatectomy (RP). The median operative time for PN was 112.5 min, 157.0 min for pyeloplasty, 151.0 min for ureteral reconstruction, 142.5 min for UR, and 138.0 min for RP. The median intraoperative blood loss was 10 mL for PN, 10 mL for pyeloplasty, 30 mL for ureteral reconstruction, 20 mL for UR, and 50 mL for RP. All procedures were successfully completed without conversion, and there were no major complications in any patient. The median warm ischemia time of PN was 17.3 min, and positive surgical margin was not noted in any patient. The overall positive surgical margin rate of RP was 39% (16/41), and no biochemical recurrence was observed in any RP patient during the median follow-up of 11.0 months. The surgical success rates of pyeloplasty and UR were 96% (25/26) and 92% (11/12) during the median follow-up of 29.5 months and 11.5 months, respectively. CONCLUSION: The KD-SR-01 system appears feasible, safe, and effective for most urological procedures, based on our single-center experience.

PURPOSE: Urinary incontinence is a common complication following robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). Few studies have explored the relationships and differences between stress urinary incontinence (SUI) and urgent urinary incontinence (UUI) after RARP. This study aimed to investigate the occurrence rates and risk factors of UUI and SUI in short term after RARP. METHODS: We prospectively included prostate cancer patients who underwent RARP by a single surgeon. Demographics, lower urinary tract function, oncology, and follow-ups were recorded. Occurrence rates and risk factors of UUI and SUI within 3 months after catheter withdrawal were calculated. RESULTS: The study cohort included 363 subjects with a mean age of 66.05 years. The median preoperative International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) was 14 (range 0-35), and the median Overactive Bladder Symptom Score (OABSS) was 3 (range 0-14). The occurrence rate of UUI and SUI at 3 months after catheter withdrawal was 8.5% (31/363) and 15.2% (55/363). Nearly all patients with UUI also had SUI. Diabetes history and high OABSS before RARP were independent risk factors for UUI, especially within 1 month after catheter withdrawal. The Gleason Score was an independent risk factor for SUI at 3 months after catheter withdrawal. Additionally, UUI but not SUI might be an influencing factor for decision-making regarding postoperative radiotherapy. CONCLUSION: The occurrence rate of SUI after RARP was persistently higher than that of UUI. Nearly all of the patients with UUI simultaneously had SUI. The risk factors of UUI and SUI after RARP were absolutely different.

OBJECTIVE: Depressive disorders constitute a series of debilitating diseases. This study investigated the therapeutic effect of agomelatine (AG) combined with aerobic exercise (AE) on patients with moderate-severe depression (MSD) and the changes of the serum C-reactive protein (CRP) level in patients after treatment as well as its significance. METHODS: A total of 178 MSD patients were randomly assigned to the AG group (N = 90) and AG + AE group (N = 88). The severity of depressive disorders and anhedonia was assessed using the Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAM-D), Beck Depression Inventory, and Snaith-Hamilton Pleasure Scale scores. The serum CRP level in MSD patients was detected by turbidity assay. Patients were defined as remitters, responders, and nonresponders according to the HAM-D 17 score, and the treatment efficacy was analyzed, followed by evaluation of the serum CRP level in patients with different treatment responses. Finally, the adverse reactions of patients during treatment were statistically analyzed. RESULTS: After treatment, the HAM-D, Beck Depression Inventory, and Snaith-Hamilton Pleasure Scale scores and the serum CRP level of the 2 groups were reduced, and changes in the AG + AE group was more significant than that in the AG group. The clinical efficacy of the AG + AE group was better than that of the AG group. After treatment, the serum levels of CRP in remitters and responders were reduced, but not significantly in nonresponders. The incidence of adverse events in the AG + AE group was lower than that in the AG group. CONCLUSION: AG + AE reduced the serum level of CRP in MSD patients and had good therapeutic effects on MSD patients.

BACKGROUND: Environmental pollutant measurement is essential for accurate health risk assessment. However, the detection of humans' internal exposure to pollutants is cost-intensive and consumes time and energy. Polygenic risk scores (PRSs) have been widely applied in genetic studies of complex trait diseases. It is important to construct a genetically relevant environmental surrogate for pollutant exposure and to explore its utility for disease prediction and risk assessment. OBJECTIVES: This study enrolled 714 individuals with complete genomic data and exposomic data on 22 plasma-persistent organic pollutants (POPs). METHODS: We first conducted 22 POP genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and constructed the corresponding environmental pollutant-based PRS (EpPRS) by clumping and P value thresholding (C + T), lassosum, and PRS-CS methods. The best-fit EpPRS was chosen by its regression R2. An adverse outcome pathway (AOP) framework was developed to assess the effects of contaminants on candidate diseases. Furthermore, Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed to explore the causal association between POPs and cancer risk. RESULTS: The C + T method produced the best-performing EpPRSs for 7 PCBs and 4 PBDEs. EpPRSs replicated the correlations of environmental exposure measurements based on consistent patterns. The diagnostic performance of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) PRS was improved by the combined model of T2DM-EpPRS of PCB126/BDE153. Finally, the AKT1-mediated AOP framework illustrated that PCB126 and BDE153 may increase the risk of T2DM by decreasing AKT1 phosphorylation through the cGMP-PKG pathway and promoting abnormal glucose homeostasis. MR analysis showed that digestive system tumors, such as colorectal cancer and biliary tract cancer, are more sensitive to POP exposure. CONCLUSIONS: EpPRSs can serve as a proxy for assessing pollutant internal exposure. The application of the EpPRS to disease risk assessment can reveal the toxic pathway and mode of action linking exposure and disease in detail, providing a basis for the development of environmental pollutant control strategies.

BACKGROUND: Severe dental phobia or failure to cooperate with treatment are very common in outpatient pediatric dentistry. Personalized and appropriate noninvasive anesthesia methods can save medical expenses, improve treatment efficiency, reduce the anxiety of children, and improve the satisfaction of nursing staff. Currently, there is little conclusive evidence for noninvasive moderate sedation strategies in pediatric dental surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The trial was conducted from May 2022 to September 2022. Each child was first given midazolam oral solution 0.5 mg·kg -1 , and when the Modified Observer's Assessment of Alertness and Sedation score reached 4, a biased coin design up-down method was used to adjust the dose of esketamine. The primary outcome was the ED 95 and 95% CI of intranasal esketamine hydrochloride with midazolam 0.5 mg·kg -1 . Secondary outcomes included the onset time of sedation, treatment and awakening times, and the incidence of adverse events. RESULTS: A total of 60 children were enrolled; 53 children were successfully sedated but 7 were not. The ED 95 of intranasal esketamine with 0.5 mg·kg -1 midazolam oral liquid for the treatment of dental caries was 1.99 mg·kg -1 (95% CI 1.95-2.01 mg·kg -1 ). The mean onset time of sedation for all patients was 43.7±6.9 min. 15.0 (10-24.0) min for examination and 89.4±19.5 min for awakening. The incidence of intraoperative nausea and vomiting was 8.3%. Adverse reactions such as transient hypertension and tachycardia occurred during the operations. CONCLUSION: The ED 95 of intranasal esketamine with 0.5 mg·kg -1 midazolam oral liquid for the outpatient pediatric dentistry procedure under moderate sedation was 1.99 mg·kg -1 . For children aged 2-6 years with dental anxiety who require dental surgery, anesthesiologists may consider using midazolam oral solution combined with esketamine nasal drops for noninvasive sedation after a preoperative anxiety scale evaluation.

AIM: The aim of this study was to identify the influencing factors of sleep disorders and sleep quality in healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. DESIGN: Systematic review and meta-analysis of observational research. METHODS: The databases of the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, SinoMed database, CNKI, Wanfang Data, and VIP were systematically searched. The quality of studies was assessed using the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality evaluation criteria and the Newcastle-Ottawa scale. RESULTS: A total of 29 studies were included, of which 20 were cross-sectional studies, eight were cohort studies, and 1 was a case-control study; 17 influencing factors were finally identified. Greater risk of sleep disturbance was associated with female gender, single relationship status, chronic disease, insomnia history, less exercise, lack of social support, frontline work, days served in frontline work, department of service, night shift, years of work experience, anxiety, depression, stress, received psychological assistance, worried about being infected, and degree of fear with COVID-19. CONCLUSIONS: During the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers did have worse sleep quality than the general population. The influencing factors of sleep disorders and sleep quality in healthcare workers are multifaceted. Identification and timely intervention of resolvable influencing factors are particularly important for preventing sleep disorders and improving sleep. PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION: This is a meta-analysis of previously published studies so there was no patient or public contribution.

Background: The treatment of bilateral long segment ureteral strictures is challenging. Minimally invasive bilateral ileal ureter replacement has been presented with limited experience. This study presents the results of the largest known sample size of minimally invasive bilateral ileal ureter replacement as well as the very first experience of minimally invasive bilateral ileal ureter replacement. Case Description: From April 2021 to October 2022, nine cases of laparoscopic bilateral ileal ureter replacement for bilateral long-segment ureteral strictures were recruited from the database of RECUTTER. Patient characteristics, perioperative data and follow-up outcomes were gathered retrospectively. Success was defined as relieved hydronephrosis and a stable renal function without serious complications. All the nine patients underwent the procedure successfully without serious complications or conversion. The median stricture length of bilateral ureters was 15 cm (range, 8-20). The median length of the ileum used was 25 cm (range, 25-30). The median operative time was 360 minutes (range, 270-400). The median estimated blood loss was 100 mL (range, 50-300). The median postoperative hospital stay was 14 days (range, 9-25). At a median follow-up of 9 months (range, 6-17), all patients maintained stable renal function and showed improvement in hydronephrosis. Four postoperative complications were recorded, including three urinary tract infections and one incomplete bowel obstruction. No serious postoperative complications occurred. Conclusions: Laparoscopic bilateral ileal ureter replacement is safe and feasible for bilateral long-segment ureteral strictures. However, a large sample size with long-term follow-up is still needed to further demonstrate it as the preferred option.
